This bird's-eye view of a construction site at Islington Avenue and Bloor Street was taken from the 31st floor ofthe workplace of this month’s winner (prefers not to use his name). For him, the picture demonstrates the labour in constructing a building and the strength of physical hard work that needs to go into it. "Just like I work, our community also works hard, to get their bread and butter from this work," which isn't always easy as he describes.
He came to Canada in the winter of 2011 from India. He worked to get his feet on the ground by sharing a bachelor apartment with four other tenants and using resources such as food banks as he worked his minimum-wage job. Anybody can get stuck in the cycle of poverty, but through growth and resources, he believes, "our city is trying to help this population."
"Don't think negative about yourself; stay positive," is what he would like others to remember and continues to tell himself as he hopes to continuously keep working and improving himself for a positive and bright future.
