This photograph of a stylish Church Street drag queen decked out in pink and striking a post, is by Anoymous, who sees beauty in everything. "That's what drew me to her - an amazing sense of fashion and the men watching her [dressed up] in the pinafore dress and flower in her hair. I was drawn to her by the artistry."
Anonymous immigrated to Canada with her life savings, planning to sponsor her family and start her own business. She lost everything and ended up on the streets for four years – but one thing that kept her going was taking photographs.
“The camera was my way of healing. I wouldn’t survive without my camera. I found that by taking pictures I was able to somehow survive.… I’m the happiest when I create things. It gives me a sense of fulfillment.
“I hope people will dare to dress up and put carnations in their hair and do anything that will make them happy. People think they have to be conventional but they don’t.”
