Ben took his winning photo in a storefront window on Church Street. For Ben, it speaks to community, life in the city, and how humour can brighten difficult times. "A friend of mine owns one of the stores in the background and Church Street is the community where I live and work and party," he says.
"TTC is like the veins of the city. It’s what keeps the city pumping. When one line breaks down, people are literally screwed. You have to kind of laugh at it – you’re stuck, you can’t go anywhere, what are you going to do?"
A personal support worker and fluent in sign language, Ben says he is passionate about homelessness issues because he has been homeless himself. He hopes this photo will make people laugh. "Humour. Out of all the crap that happens on these streets, right there, there is some humour."
