This photograph, taken at the 519 park, represents home to Ben. He wants to show the joy and fun of his network of friends and the strength in their diversity of community. "Location matters for people who may face discrimination. They may not thrive or be comfortable in their own home," Ben says. Here everyone feels a sense of belonging.
Ben has been on a journey to find a safe and healthy place to call home. He has lived the experience of having a roof over his head but not feeling safe. He has now found a place to call home where he can thrive. He strongly believes that homelessness is a determinant of health and well-being, which motivated him to complete his Personal Support Worker certification working in peer support. He has a passion for assisting others and encouraging them to be the best that they can be.
Ben's main objective in participating in this project was to reach out and engage others. He championed the initiative with his friends who responded by participating enthusiastically.
