When Wendy came to the graffiti-covered River Street area known as "The Underpass" with her disposable camera, she thought "I'm gonna go for this and see what happens." What happened was her photo she calls "Floating People." She says, "There are people everywhere, sad people, people bent over, closed off to the world. I did know some people who are homeless who lived under a bridge."
When she isn't taking photos, the energetic 51-year-old Wendy, a first-time contest participant, sings in a choir (this year at Luminato), plays keyboard in a band and makes pottery.
Wendy sees in the underpass "the contrast between light and dark, hopeful and despair; living in my car was bad enough." She's also hopeful about the contest that "I might be a little more prepared next year."
